The Bible & The Sewing Machine

Thirty one years ago, while living in Livingstone, Zambia, our family property was burnt. I just remembered that incident and recalled something very, very important. If you had seen the house afterward you would not have believed that everyone got out alive partcularly one aunt of mine whom my dad got out through the window considering her size and age. In the sitting room where the fire was mostly concentrated was my mum's sewing machine on top of which was her Bible.... the fire went on around the room and these two things came out unscathed....need i say more.

At the time, i was living with a sister/cousin of mine in the capital Lusaka who for some reason decided to make up a story for my teacher to give me my end of term school report a couple of days early (three before schools closed for the holidays), that was on a wednesday.

I travelled that evening arriving the following morning only to be met by an unexpected relative who broke the news of the incident which apparently had occured while i was on the train travelling home.

Something made my cousin decide i go home a few days early? Devine intervention perhaps? There was no obvious or apparent reason. I leave that to your own discretion.

Only two people would have been left alive at the time if it was not for our Lord God almighty. Thats myself and my late brother (first born) who was studying in the then GDR (German Democratic Republic, East Germany) at the time. We would have lost my mum, dad, two sisters, one elder and the other younger and a younger brother as well as two aunts that were staying at our home at the time. Unfortunately my two aunts have since passed on but the rest of the family that were present during the fire are still alive.

Dear God, i thankyou in your sons mighty name. Amen!!!
